Special Section:SHINE Misako - Flower
2024 Sat July 13 〜 2024 Sun October 20
Closed: Mon. August 5, Mon. September 2, Mon. October 7
As a special section, "SHINE Misako - Flower" will be held in the north gallery and exhibition room 8.
Shine Misako, a nihonga (Japanese-style painting) artist based western Yokosuka, takes on the challenge of creating large-scale works. After completing Tama Art University Graduate Program, she visited India repeatedly and then, in 1998, went there as an overseas researcher in the POLA Art Foundation Overseas Study Program. In India, she was greatly influenced by her encounters with the people, the culture, and particularly the thinking of the great poet Rabindranath Tagore in establishing her own distinctive style. Her powerful work, making use of the characteristics of sumi ink and pigments, with extensive use of shading and soft, blurred nijimi, has been assessed as a new style of nihonga. She was selected for the Second Higashiyama Kaii Nikkei Nihonga Award in 2004 and in 2005, she received the Hoshino Shingo Prize (the grand prize) at the Second Triennial Competition in Toyohashi.
This exhibition presents many large works, including new works, that evoke the profundity of life, in a vast space distinguished by its atrium.
