ーBeyond the Gazeー
2024 Sat September 14 〜 2024 Mon November 4
Closed: Mon. October 7
Ei-Q (1911–60) worked not only on oil paintings but widely in numerous genres of art including photography and printmaking. Spurred by Impressionism, Surrealism, Cubism, etc., his artistic style also changed at a dizzying pace, and he was constantly in search of new expressions. He always kept up a critical mind and vigorously voiced criticism of art and the society.
Furthermore, he also played the role of a leader by organizing the “Demokrato Art Association.” As such, together with his works, Ei-Q’s existence itself attracted and had a huge influence on artists of his time and those of the younger generation.Presented in this exhibition are approximately one hundred representative works from various fields he was active in.
Centered on oil paintings dating from the initial years to his final work, there are also photographic works employing the “photo-dessin” technique, etchings, lithographs, etc. Through these works, the trajectory of this artist who swept through the prewar and postwar eras continuously in pursuit of his ideal beauty is introduced.
