Special Section: Maruyama Junko, Breathing Garden

The underground floor of the Yokosuka Museum of Art introduces works from our collection of modern and contemporary Japanese art, including creations by artists with connections to Yokosuka.
Our current special section is Maruyama Junko: Breathing Garden, on display in the Northern Gallery and Exhibition Hall 8. Maruyama Junko, who resides in Yokosuka, is engaged in creating works on the theme of recycling and circulation, using ordinary materials around her in which traces of human lives and memories remain.
For this exhibition, she presents an installation using materials such as scrap materials and soap, recomposed as an extraordinary landscape in which we sense flexible life. Working with vinyl bags from supermarkets as her material, she has added a new initiative, creating, with workshop participants, a flower garden and displaying it. Please enjoy this evolving work as it blooms during the exhibition period.
